General Information

DVCC, the Dearne Valley Camera Club was founded in 1951. We are a small, but very friendly camera club based in the Dearne Valley in South Yorkshire which encompasses the towns of Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster.

The club offers learning and development for new photographers and has successfully run several photography-based well-being events in the local community.

The club continues to grow from strength to strength based on an ethos of friendly support to all, learning, developing, and having fun.

Some of our members prefer landscape photography, for some the preference is portrait photography, others prefer wildlife or still life, or maybe street photography or sport and event photography.

Regardless of your interest and skill levels, be that beginner or expert you’ll be offered a warm welcome, the chance to learn from others and share your skills and knowledge.  We all seek to share our skills so we can all learn. You’ll also be offered opportunities to nominate and get actively involved in workshop activities, special interests, and field trips.

We like to volunteer our services to local community groups so they can access first class photographers and they in return provide our club members with access to interesting  and sometimes challenging photography opportunities.

Our meetings are held weekly (Thursday nights) at Billingley Village Hall where we have access to two rooms, so we can have breakout sessions for small groups in the smaller room whilst still making use of the larger main hall, and, of course the hall has facilities for refreshments.

We are affiliated to the Yorkshire Photographic Union (YPU) and several members had their photographs "accepted" into the YPU Annual Assembly and Exhibition (2022) and one received a Certificate of Merit.

The club's committee

The committe meet regularly to ensure an active programme of events is offered to members. This is done by seeking regular feedback from members about what photographic adventures they would like to embark upon. The committee also ensures the promotion and marketing of the club within and across the community. Each committee member takes a 'special interest' in particular aspects of the club, but paramount is working as a team for the benefit of club members.
